SMALL BUSINESS INCUBATORS
Small Business Incubators provide facilities and services to
help support the development and growth of small business
enterprises. These include a “Business Incubation Program
“that assists owners to monitor business performance and apply
sound business practice on an ongoing basis. Incubators also
provide resources such as workspace on flexible terms and an
extensive business support system that can including administrative
support and reception services. Businesses in Incubators also
have access to shared office equipment and resources. There
are over 90 Small Business Incubators in all States and Territories
in Australia.
AWARDS HISTORY
The Incubator Awards were initiated in 2000 following the review
of the Small Business Incubator Program by PriceWaterhouseCooper.
This review recommended the instigation of annual awards for
outstanding achievement as a mechanism for achieving best practice
in Incubators.
Sponsorship over the past 7 years has attracted over $100,000
from industry, government & the business incubation
industry.

VENUE FOR THE AWARDS
The Awards are presented during the annual Small Business
Development Conference. to be held 12-15 October in
Melbourne.
The Conference, organised by Business Innovation &
Incubation Australia (BIIA), in conjunction with Business
Enterprise Centres Australia (BECA) and the National NEIS
Association (NNA), aims to further professional development across
the industry.
The 2008 conference will present challenging international
speakers, national speakers at the forefront of the industry, plus
a range of practitioners willing to share their experiences and
expertise. Details of the 2008 Conference will be
progressively available on the website www.sbdc.org.au.
Nominations for the Awards are received from BIIA Incubator
members in 2 categories:
- National
Incubator of the Year
- National
Incubator Client of the Year
GUEST PROFILE
The Conference attracts approximately 200 participants from all
sectors of the profession across Australia. These include: business
development practitioners from Business Incubators, BEC’s and NEIS
providers. The 2008 Conference is open to local and regional
economic development practitioners, small business education
organisations, commercial business advisors and academics.
MARKETING OPPORTUNITY
The awards provide opportunity for companies to promote their
products and services to a targeted audience of business
development professionals.

Sponsor marketing opportunities continue for several months
after the presentation of the Awards as Incubator winners attract
local, state and national media. In addition 8 December 2008
will be the launch of the world first Global Incubation Day where
the winners of the BIIA awards will have the opportunity to be
profiled on the world stage. Winners will be encouraged to
participate in addition to promote the awards sponsors.
